CELPIP Writing Overview
Duration: approximately 53 minutes
The CELPIP Writing component contains two tasks that test your ability to communicate effectively in written English for everyday and professional situations.
Writing Task 1: Writing an Email
Candidates write an email based on a given situation. This task tests your ability to communicate clearly and appropriately in email format.
What We Focus On
Understanding the purpose of the email, addressing every instruction, choosing an appropriate tone, organising the introduction, body and conclusion, developing clear supporting details, using suitable vocabulary, checking grammar and sentence structure, and completing the response within the time limit.
Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions
Candidates choose between two options and explain their preference. This task tests your ability to express opinions and support them with reasons.
What We Focus On
Making a clear choice, developing relevant reasons, supporting opinions with examples, comparing alternatives, organising paragraphs logically, using linking expressions, maintaining clarity and consistency, and editing the response efficiently.
